How it works
Your overall grade is the weighted total of your current grade and the final: overall = current × (1 − w) + final × w, where w is the weight of the final as a decimal. Solving for the final gives final needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w.
Example
With 85% so far, a final worth 30% and a target of 80%, you need (80 − 85 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 68.3% on the final.
Frequently asked questions
What if the answer is over 100%?
Then the target cannot be reached with the final alone. Ask your teacher about extra credit or choose a lower goal.
Does it work with points?
Convert points to percentages first, or use percentages throughout.
Is the weight the same as the points?
Not always. Use the percentage of the total grade that the final contributes.
