How it works
Annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year. Paid weeks are 52 minus your unpaid weeks off. To go the other way, divide annual pay by the hours you work in a year.
The result is before tax and does not include benefits or paid holidays unless you count them as paid weeks.
Worked example
At 25 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks, annual pay is 25 × 40 × 52 = 52,000. That is about 4,333 a month.
Tips
- If you are self-employed, remember that you cannot bill every hour you work. Use our freelance hourly rate calculator to plan a rate.
- If your employer pays for holidays, leave unpaid weeks at 0. If you do not get paid for time off, enter the weeks.
- Compare jobs using the same hours per week for a fair comparison.
